2014 Veterans Appreciation Ride

When: Jan. 11, 2014

Where: Madelia

About: The Minnesota United Snowmobilers Association and Minnesota Snowmobile Education and Advancement Fund is holding their 6th Annual Veterans Appreciation Snowmobile Ride. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and one night's lodging will be provided to the attendees. Additionally, 25 snowmobiles will be available for those that would like to try snowmobiling. Others are invited to come along and bring their own snowmobile. Pre-registration is required.

Laurie Halse Anderson - Author Visit

When: Jan. 12, 4 p.m.

Where: Harriet Island Pavilion, St. Paul

About: Laurie Halse Anderson is on tour for the release of her latest novel, "The Impossible Knife of Memory," which is about finding a light in the shadowy reality of having lived through war.

Coming Together Around Military Families

When: Jan. 15, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Rasmussen College Campus, Blaine

About: In this presentation, participants will explore the strengths and challenges of living in a military family, the social and emotional needs of all young children and ways you can support them during the deployment cycle.

Minnesota Wild's 2nd Annual Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Night

When: Jan. 16, 7 p.m.

Where: Xcel Energy Center, St. Paul

About: For $58.50, Servicemembers and military families will receive a lower-level ticket, commemorative puck, chips, pop and entry into a drawing for door prizes - grand prize is one hour of ice time at the Xcel Energy Center for the winner and up to 150 friends! A portion of the proceeds will go to local Yellow Ribbon Networks. Use the special offer code "BTYR" when ordering.

Mall of America Yellow Ribbon Proclamation

When: Jan. 17, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Mall of America Rotunda, Bloomington

About: The Mall of America will be proclaimed a Yellow Ribbon Company during a proclamation ceremony at the Mall of America Rotunda!

 

Love on Our Military Free Dinner

When: Jan. 20, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Central Lutheran Church, Elk River

About: All Servicemembers, veterans and their families are invited to enjoy a free dinner, courtesy of Elk River Beyond the Yellow Ribbon.

When: Jan. 28, 2 p.m.

Where: Pipestone County EMS/Transit Building, Pipestone

About: The City and County of Pipestone will be proclaimed Yellow Ribbon!

 

91st Annual Snowflake Ski Tournament

When: Jan. 31, 7 p.m., and Feb. 1, noon

Where: Snowflake Ski Club, near Westby, Wisc.

About: Veterans will be admitted for free to watch two great winter events - ski jumping and snowmobile racing!

World's Toughest Rodeo

When: Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 7:30 p.m.

Where: Xcel Energy Center, St. Paul

About: Discounted tickets being offered to see cowboys from around the world compete in bareback riding, saddle bronc riding and bull riding.

Holes for Heroes Ice Fishing Tournament

When: Feb. 1, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Medicine Lake, Plymouth

About: Military personnel and their families pay no registration fees for a shot at more than $2,000 in prizes! Additionally, the tournament will be simulcast to Iraq and Afghanistan so Servicemembers overseas can watch their family and friends fish!

Great Lakes Aquarium Tween Overnight

When: March 15, 6:30 p.m., to March 16, 9 a.m.

Where: Great Lakes Aquarium, Duluth

About: When the lights go off and the last of the day's visitors are ushered out of the aquarium, few people realize that the real fun has only begun. Before the lights go off, military-connected tweens (youth ages 9 to 13) will learn how animals are resilient through a scavenger hunt, behind-the-scenes tours and more. Tweens will spend the night at the aquarium. An evening snack and breakfast will be provided.

Teen Leadership Forum

When: March 21 to 23, 2014

Where: Mankato

About: During this forum, military-connected teens will learn how to become leaders by participating in team-building games, learning about the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and listening to inspiring speakers. The forum will also give teens a chance to network with other military-connected teens.
