Minnesota Girls State
The American Legion Auxiliary has long been involved in sponsoring students for Girls State. Girls State is a highly respected educational program for US high school students. Participants learn about the rights and responsibilities of citizens, with training centered on the structure of city, country, and state governments. How can your unit help?
Reach out to Schools: This includes homeschools, private, and public schools. We recommend searching online and sending emails to the appropriate people. Build relationships with those you connect with and provide them with resources for teachers & parents to distribute.
Connect with Groups: Seek out opportunities to meet with Booster Clubs and ask to drop in on meetings to tell parents about Girls State. Be prepared with brochures and materials to distribute.
Sponsor Students: Talk with the connections you've made within the education systems and clubs about how your Unit will sponsor a student to go to Girls State each year. Provide the necessary information for students to apply.
Use Social Media: Let parents in your community know about Girls State and how their daughter could receive a sponsorship. Talk about the incredible reasons for students to attend.
